WHAT IS the URBAN CI SURVIVAL CAMP 2023 (UCISC2023) ?

Grounded in the roots of Contact Improvisation, the UCISC2023 is a collective journey into the practice.

Taking place in Urban Montreal studios from August 16th to 18th with a rural field trip to Danse Orée des Bois in Stukley-Sud from August 18th to 20th, we propose a focused group training and study of several physical and reflective dimensions of contact improvisation.

Taught by Valerie Sabbah and co-facilitated with Shanthi Minor, Laure Marin de la Vallée, Myrtille Miroulotte, Lalaina Dafunkytechnician, Michaël Boudreau, Jonah Leslie and other local guest practitioners, classes and workshops will be designed to progressively tune our bodies to sustain a flow state for jamming.

The core of the UCISC2023 training will draw from selected material of Valerie’s studies with Steve Paxton (Material For The Spine), Lisa Nelson (Tuning Score), Somatic research of developmental patterns as explored in Body-Mind Centering.

​It is for those who have experience with contact Improvisation or related movement practice and are deeply interested in joining other seriously silly die-hard CI practitioners in a rigorous camp experience!
